According to the latest figures of the COVID-19 pandemic,
There are now over 13.1 million confirmed cases of Coronavirus in around 213 countries and territories. The virus has reached Gaza, Syria, and Yemen, sparking fears that the disease could spread unchecked, particularly in crowded camps.
This number is likely to increase over the coming weeks and months as the global pandemic reaches people in every part of the world.
The World Health Organisation has declared COVID-19 a pandemic and the outbreak is threatening to the entire population. The poorest, poverty-stricken, and marginalised communities are the most vulnerable and at the greatest risk of contracting the virus and further spreading it as they cannot isolate within their living spaces and in some cases, some may not be able to take days of work. Coronavirus does not discriminate; it targets the rich and poor.
Minhaj Welfare Foundation is tackling the impact of this new virus. Our team provides food parcels, hygiene kits, masks, gloves, and health supplies in order to protect the affected communities and to prevent the further spread of the virus. Minhaj Welfare Foundation is also educating masses through awareness campaigns educating about the pandemic, the difference between a pandemic and an epidemic.
All local communities are being urged to take extra care during this pandemic and follow their governments’ official COVID-19 guidelines. This includes:
- Wearing a mask
- Washing hands regularly and thoroughly with soap
- Avoiding touching one’s face
- Covering one’s mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve when coughing or sneezing
- Putting used tissues in the bin and washing hands immediately
- Avoiding close contact with people who are unwell.

Across Asia millions of people are crippled by the coronavirus pandemic due to the prevalent poverty. The Pakistani Prime Minister highlighted the issue, saying:
If we shut down the cities… we save them from corona virus at one end, but they will die from hunger on the other side.
Minhaj Welfare Foundation working hard with local partners to provide life-saving food and hygiene essentials in Pakistan and Bangladesh, reaching extremely vulnerable communities including Rohingya refugees.
